A vacant wooded lot at the edge of Shockoe Bottom is being primed for an apartment development.
Genesis Properties is preparing to break ground this summer on a $26 million, five-story project on a 3.6-acre L-shaped parcel at 1900 Venable St.
Plans call for 151 apartments with 72 one-bedroom, 68 two-bedroom and 11 three-bedroom units.
This project has been funded and will begin construction soon.
Construction is set to start in 2019 with projected move-ins occurring in 2021. We will update this page as we get more information on the progress of this project including information on how to apply for residence once construction is complete. Please check back regularly.
Since this property has received funding in part through the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, a certain number of units are set aside for lower income households. Households must earn either less than 50% or 60% of the area median income (depending on the set-aside option chosen by the property owner) to qualify for these units. Rents in these units are capped at a maximum of 30% of the set-aside area median income (adjusted for unit size). Some rental units in this property may not be subject to LIHTC and therefore have higher rents and no maximum household income requirement.
