Carleton Co-op has a short wait on apartments! Carleton Co-op is a 47 unit senior community in the small, rural town of Carelton, Michigan. It is conveniently located within five miles of the 1-275 expressway, in northern Monroe County. Carleton Co-op is nationally recognized as A Community of Quality by the National Affordable Housing Management Association. The property was completed in 1993 and provides apartments for ages 62+. The co-op represents the enjoyment and freedom that comes with affordable living.

The Carelton community is considered a sleepy town with senior programs and activities in the area. Resident members enjoy the peace and privacy of their apartments, but also enjoy participating in the many community events the resident members sponsor. You can join in the doughnut and coffee hour, bingo, table games, cards, wii bowling, or just relaxing in our living/community room or out on the patio in our lovely garden. There are occasional catered events and many other chances to be a part of a fun community. Carleton is pet friendly. The pet has to be 20 lbs. or under, and there's no pet deposit. They are located next to: medical offices, pharmacy, banking, post office, grocery store, restaurants, dollar store, hardware store and more.

Carleton Co-op is gradually transforming into a 100% smoke free Co-op; smoking is not allowed in any common area or within 25 feet of the building. There are a few members who are still permitted to smoke in their own apartments because they signed a waiver prior to the full implementation of the new smoking rules. All new members as of March 8, 2017, are not allowed to smoke inside their own apartment.

Living in a co-op means living in a building that is controlled by the resident members. The resident members vote on all major operating decisions, including writing the annual budget. The membership also includes privileges such as serving in elected or appointed positions, voting in co-op elections, CSI board elections, corporate bylaw changes or other matters coming before the members. Resident members have the opportunity to attend many different functions throughout the year, including the CSI annual luncheon. Becoming part of a CSI co-op allows you to enjoy the benefits of apartment living while retaining control of your environment.

Carleton is affordable for everyone. Rent is based on a percentage of the household's income. So don't wait, call for a tour. Come join us today. All that is missing is you!
