Clare Court was built by Catholic sisters in 1917 and served as an orphanage, school, and convent before it was converted to its present use as affordable housing. Part of the beautiful ten acre property continues today to serve as a convent home and chapel for the Sisters of St Francis of Assisi. In order to continue their mission, the Sisters joined with Homes for America, a nonprofit housing developer who created 30 units of housing. The overall goal of Clare Court is to help create and preserve families and foster intergenerational living in the community.
Residents of all ages are welcome, income limits apply, and all units have rental assistance through the Section 8 Program.

Since this property has received funding in part through the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, a certain number of units are set aside for lower income households. Households must earn either less than 50% or 60% of the area median income (depending on the set-aside option chosen by the property owner) to qualify for these units. Rents in these units are capped at a maximum of 30% of the set-aside area median income (adjusted for unit size). Some rental units in this property may not be subject to LIHTC and therefore have higher rents and no maximum household income requirement.
