Mission Gateway is managed by MidPen Housing.

Mission Gateway is a mixed-use development that combines affordable family housing with 3,000 square feet of ground-floor retail. Located near the East Bay foothills, the community provides a beautiful entrance to Union City. Working with the Redevelopment Agency of Union City, MidPen Housing helped the city achieve its goals of creating new housing and business opportunities by transforming the site, once occupied by abandoned and dilapidated buildings, into the Mission Gateway community. A landscaped courtyard with space for playing and relaxing is located over the parking garage. The community building includes a hall with a kitchen, art room, computer lab, gym and resident services office. Other amenities include a barbecue area, swimming pool, children’s play area and basketball half-court.

Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC)

Since this property has received funding in part through the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, a certain number of units are set aside for lower income households. Households must earn either less than 50% or 60% of the area median income (depending on the set-aside option chosen by the property owner) to qualify for these units. Rents in these units are capped at a maximum of 30% of the set-aside area median income (adjusted for unit size). Some rental units in this property may not be subject to LIHTC and therefore have higher rents and no maximum household income requirement.
