Edwina Benner Plaza is managed by MidPen Housing.
Edwina Benner Plaza helps address the pressing need for affordable housing in one of the nation’s most expensive housing markets by providing 66 affordable rental apartments for households earning up to 60% of Santa Clara County area median income. Thirteen units are reserved for families that are currently homeless and another 10 are reserved for families at risk of homelessness. Benner Plaza is located on a site that formerly housed an underutilized single-story commercial building. The community is named in honor of Edwina Benner, who served as Sunnyvale mayor – and California’s first female mayor – from 1924 to 1926. She served again as mayor in 1938-40.
