The Starling is managed by Eden Housing.

The Starling is a new construction project that consists of 70 units in one four-story building. The community is dedicated to families and individuals and consists of 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom units and 3-bedroom units. Located on the western side of the City of Alameda, The Starling is a part of the redevelopment of the former Naval Air Station in Alameda.

The Starling incorporates innovative green design elements that maximize energy and water efficiency and make use of recycled materials. As such, the project optimizes energy and resource efficiency, which provides a healthier home for residents and improves affordability by minimizing resident’s utility costs.

Some of the amenities offered include a community center, community gardens, a computer lab, gated parking, on-site laundry, playground, bicycle storage, and a bbq grilling area.

Pets are allowed in accordance with Eden Housing Management, Inc.’s Pet Policy. A pet deposit of $150 is required and additional items including pet records including immunization & registration is required with notification and approval by Property Management prior to moving in a pet.

Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC)

Since this property has received funding in part through the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, a certain number of units are set aside for lower income households. Households must earn either less than 50% or 60% of the area median income (depending on the set-aside option chosen by the property owner) to qualify for these units. Rents in these units are capped at a maximum of 30% of the set-aside area median income (adjusted for unit size). Some rental units in this property may not be subject to LIHTC and therefore have higher rents and no maximum household income requirement.
