Closed: Hopewell, Virginia Section 8 Voucher

The Hopewell Redevelopment and Housing Authority (HRHA) last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications for March 1, 2024, until March 5, 2024. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

There were two ways to apply while the waitlist was open:

  1. Complete the online application.
  2. Complete an application in person at Thomas Rolfe Community Center.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Families that live of work in Hopewell.
  • Working Families
    • Head of Household or Spouse or Sole Member is aged 62 or older or is a person with disabilities or where the Head of the Household is the primary caregiver for a disabled household member. Minimum work hours 15 per week for non-elderly and non-disabled.
  • Veterans
  • Applicants families with disabilities who reside in institutions who are ready to leave the institution for community-based living.
  • Victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault or stalking.
  • Elderly/Disabled 
  • Homelessness
  • Involuntarily displaced
  • Involuntarily Displaced HRHA

Closed: 1, 2, 3 and 4-Bedroom Section 8 Project-Based Voucher

The Hopewell Redevelopment and Housing Authority (HRHA) last accepted Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list applications for 1, 2, 3 and 4-Bedroom apartments from May 28, 2024, until May 31, 2024. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: According to the HRHA "Waiting lists are subject to close earlier than May 31, 2024, if lists reach the maximum limit of 500 applicants."

This waiting list had the following preferences: 

  • Residency Preference – Families that live and /or work in Hopewell.
  • Working Families – Head of household or spouse or sole member is aged 62 or older or is a person with disabilities (Notice PIH 2011-33) or where the head of the household is the primary caregiver for a disabled household member. Minimum works hours 15 per week for non-elderly and non-disabled.
  • Veterans – Persons who were honorably discharged or under other than dishonorable conditions.
  • Olmstead Preference – Applicant families with disabilities who reside in institutions who are ready to leave the institution for community based living.
  • Domestic Violence - Victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault or stalking.
  • Elderly/Disabled - Head of Household, Spouse or Sole Member is aged 62 or older or is a person with disabilities.
  • Homelessness - Individuals with this preference will provide verification of status through an organization identified through the State or Local continuum of care.
  • Involuntarily Displaced - Involuntarily Displaced or about to be Involuntarily Displaced by government action, fire, natural disaster, domestic violence, to avoid reprisals, hate crimes or due to the inaccessibility of unit.
  • Involuntarily Displaced HRHA - Involuntarily displaced due to a real estate acquisition by HRHA.

500 selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application was received, weighed by order of preferences.

To apply while the waitlist was open, applicants were required to complete the online application.
