The Hampton Redevelopment & Housing Authority (HRHA) is currently accepting Public Housing waiting list pre-applications for families and senior (50+)/disabled households.Please note: Only the Langley Village senior community, and North Phoebus family community 3-5 bedroom waiting lists are open at this time.To apply, download and print a North Phoebus pre-application online here, or a Langley Village pre-application online here, then print and complete.Once the application has been completed, it can be mailed to 100 Langley Ave., Hampton, VA 23669.Be sure to include copies of birth certificates, Social Security Cards, proof of income, and photo IDs for all adult household members.The HRHA has identified the following preferences: Local resident; disabled; elderly; targeted income; and special circumstances such as, disaster, fire flood, witness, protection, and domestic violence. The Langley Village waiting list has a preference of applicants who are 62 years old or older.For more information, visit the HRHA website, or call the office at (757) 727-6337.

Closed: Hampton, Virginia Section 8 Voucher

The Hampton Redevelopment & Housing Authority (HRHA) last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from May 11, 2023, until May 13, 2023. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Residency Preference: 95% of the 5,000 households placed on the waiting list will be households who qualify for the Housing Choice Voucher program’s local lease-in-place or residency preference. The remaining 5% will be awarded to any other applicant. To qualify for these preferences, households must meet one of the following definitions:
    • Local lease-in-place preference means the applicant has resided in the City of Hampton for at least 3 months, and the property owner/manager is willing to participate in the program.
    • Residency preference means the applicant household contains a head of household, co-head or spouse who either lives or works (20 hours or more weekly) in the City of Hampton.

5,000 selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.
