The Albemarle County Office of Housing (ACOH) last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from May 6, 2024, until May 13, 2024. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Homeless Preference
    • Households that are experiencing homelessness and/ or previously experienced homelessness and are currently in a permanent supportive housing or rapid- rehousing project. A referral from TJACH is required
  • Residency Preference
    • Families who live, work or have been hired to work in Albemarle County.
  • Veteran's Preference
    • Preference is available to current members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans who were discharged or released from service under conditions other than dishonorable or surviving spouses of veterans.
  • Victims of domestic Violence
    • Families that include victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking who has either been referred to by a partnering service agency, or seeking an emergency transfer under VAWA from other covered housing programs operated by this PHA.
  • Disability Preference
    • Preference is extended to disabled persons or families with a disabled member as defined in ACOH Administrative plan.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences.

To apply while the waitlist was open, applicants were required to complete the online application.

The Albemarle County Office of Housing (ACOH) last accepted Family Unification Voucher waiting list applications from April 6, 2023, until April 13, 2023. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: According to the ACOH notice " The HCV Waiting List will remain open indefinitely to accept Family Unification Program (FUP) Voucher Referrals only. Referrals must be made through Albemarle County’s Department of Social Services as a Public Child Welfare Agency. Please do not contact the office directly for a referral".
