Closed: Houston, Texas Section 8 Voucher

The Houston Housing Authority (HHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. It was last open for one week in September 2016, and before that for one week in August 2012. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application. The application was available in English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Vietnamese. Paper applications were not available or accepted.

This waiting list has the following preferences: Homeless, and transition age youth aging out of foster care. Further explanation of each preference can be found here.

30,000 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences. Applicants can check their waiting list status online here.

The Houston Housing Authority (HHA) Public Housing waiting list is closed.

The HHA last accepted applications for this waiting list from January 15, 2023, until February 15, 2023. There is no notice when this waitlist will reopen.

There were two ways to apply during the opening period:

1. Complete the online application.
2. Complete an application in person at the HHA office.

Preferences have not yet been confirmed.

Selected applicants were placed on this waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.
