The Dallas Housing Authority (DHA) is accepting Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from January 21, 2020 at 9:00 am CT, until further notice.

Please note: This opening also includes the Walker Settlement Voucher Program and the Mainstream Housing Choice Voucher Program. According to the DHA, "Walker Settlement Vouchers are allocated for Class Members only (African-Americans), who agree to live in a 'high opportunity' area with low poverty that is not a minority neighborhood. The Mainstream Housing Voucher Program is for non-elderly persons who have a disability and are between the age of 18 and 62, who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness or institutionalization."

To apply during the opening period, complete the online application.

This waiting list has the following preferences:

  • Families involuntarily displaced from their current housing due to governmental action or federally designated natural disaster.
  • Individuals who need and qualify for congregate housing in an assisted living facility.
  • Families who have been made homeless by documented domestic violence; and individuals graduating from or “aging out” of the foster care program administered by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services, families completing their tenure in transitional housing (under the Continuum of Care), chronically homeless individuals and persons; and currently or formerly homeless applicants who are ready to move to project or tenant based voucher housing providing permanent supportive housing to the homeless;
  • Families that include children between the age of 3 and 10, only as it relates to the participation of a national study which DHA is a party to.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences.

Open: Dallas Housing Authority Mainstream Voucher

The Dallas Housing Authority (DHA) is accepting Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from January 21, 2020 at 9:00 am CT, until further notice.

Please note: According to the DHA, "The Mainstream Housing Voucher Program is for non-elderly persons who have a disability and are between the age of 18 and 62, who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness or institutionalization."

To apply during the opening period, complete the online application.

The maximum income limits for each household size are as follows:

  • 1 Person $30,200 | 4 Persons $43,100
  • 2 Persons $34,500 | 5 Persons $46,550
  • 3 Persons $38,800 | 6 Persons $50,000

This waiting list has the following preferences:

  • Individuals referred by a DHA-approved support service provider agency who commits to provide ongoing supportive services to the applicant when selected.

It is not known how applicants will be placed on the waiting list.

Open: Dallas Housing Authority Section 8 Project-Based Voucher

The Dallas Housing Authority (DHA) waiting list for Section 8 Project-Based Voucher apartments is currently open.

The DHA is accepting applications for this wait list from December 11, 2017 at 9:00 am CT, until further notice.

To apply during the opening period, complete the online application.

This waiting list has the following preferences: 

  • Education Preference
    • Applicants who are enrolled in and who are active students in a trade school or a college or university with a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester
  • Homeless
    • This preference shall be granted to vulnerable homeless individuals and families as identified by a DHA approved agency
  • Working Family
    •  This preference is for a family or individual that has a working adult member working at least 30 hour per week for 6 consecutive months prior to admission with no period of unemployment for than 2 weeks.

It is not known how selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list, weighed by order of preferences.

The Dallas Housing Authority (DHA) Walker Settlement Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open.

The DHA is accepting applications for this wait list from January 21, 2020 at 9:00 am CT, until further notice.

Please note: According to the DHA, "For the purposes of the Walker Settlement–Housing Voucher Program open enrollment, Walker Settlement class members with gross annual income from all members of their household which is at or below the Area Medium Income corresponding to the number of persons in your household...may be eligible to participate in the program. To be considered eligible for a Walker Settlement Voucher, the head of household must be African-American."

To apply during the opening period, complete the online application.
