Housing Works last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from January 8, 2024, until January 12, 2024. This waiting list was last open in January, 2023. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply while the waiting list was open, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Local residency
    • Applicants that reside in Crook, Deschutes or Jefferson Counties or whose household includes a family member who works, or has been notified that they are hired to work, in Crook, Deschutes or Jefferson Counties, will be served before those residing outside this area.
  • Mainstream preference is specifically for non-elderly persons with disabilities who are transitioning out of institutional or other segregated settings, at serious risk of institutionalization, homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
  • Single applicants who are elderly or disabled will be given a selection priority over all “other single” applicants. “Other singles” denotes a one-person household in which the individual member is not elderly or disabled. Such applicants will be placed on the waiting list in accordance with any other preferences to which they are entitled, but they cannot be selected for assistance before any one-person elderly or disabled family.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences.

Housing Works provides affordable housing for up to 1,272 low and moderate income households through its Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program..

In addition, Housing Works offers other programs for eligible households, including:
