The Springfield Metropolitan Housing Authority (SMHA) is currently accepting public housing waiting list applications for families and senior/disabled individuals.The SMHA offers eleven public housing communities with 778 units for families and senior/disabled individuals.There are two ways to apply for public housing:1. Visit the SMHA office to pick up an application, located at 101 West High St., Springfield, OH, between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday-Friday.2. Download an application here, then print and complete.Once the application has been completed it must be hand delivered to the address listed above, no appointment is necessary. Be sure to bring these original documents with your application: birth certificates, social security cards, copies of police record, proof of all income, verification of all assets.The SMHA does have a preference point system that may improve your spot on the waiting list: veteran, homeless, rent burden, displaced, disabled, and elderly.More information can be found by visiting the SMHA website at http://www.smha-lpnnc.com/, or by calling 937-325-7331 during normal office hours.

Closed: Springfield, Clark and Champaign County, Ohio Section 8 Voucher

The Springfield Metropolitan Housing Authority (SMHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program waiting list is closed.

The SMHA last accepted applications for this waiting list from November 8, 2022, until November 22, 2022. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to print the application.

Once the paper application was completed, it was required to be hand delivered to the SMHA office. Applications were accepted during these specific dates: November 8, 2022, November 10, 2022, November 15, 2022, and November 22, 2022.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Lease in Place
    • An applicant who can document that they are: 1. a veteran with service-connected disability; 2. a family of a deceased veteran whose death was service-connected; 3. Or other veteran that meets the definition of SMHA’s administrative plan.
  • Veterans
    • An applicant who can document that they are: 1) a veteran with service-connected disability or 2) a family of a deceased veteran whose death was service-connected.
  • Rent Burdened 40% of Income
    • An applicant who can document that they are paying more than 40% of their monthly gross family adjusted income (adjustments for dependent allowance, medical expenses, etc.) toward monthly housing costs (rent and utilities).
  • Homeless
    • Applicant must be currently homeless and must be able to provide third party documentation of their homelessness.
  • Elderly
    • An applicant or spouse who is sixty-two (62) years of age or older.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application was received, by order of preferences.
