Open: Geauga Metropolitan Housing Authority Public Housing

The Geauga Metropolitan Housing Authority (GMHA) waiting list for Public Housing apartments is currently open. Applications are being accepted since at least July, 2018, until further notice.

To apply during the opening period, print the application that is available online. Select the "Application Form" link.

Once the application has been completed, it must be mailed to:

Copies of the following documents are required of all adult members of the household: Photo ID, Social Security Card.

This waiting list has the following preferences:

  • Veteran or widow of a veteran, 2 Points
  • Victim of domestic abuse (verification required), 2 Points
  • Upward Mobility (Head, Co-Head, or Spouse employed or participating in a self-sufficiency activity such as attending college/vocational training, job training, or in another type of selfsufficiency program such as TANF work requirement; or qualifies as an elderly or disable household), 3 Points

Closed: Geauga County, Ohio Section 8 Voucher

The Geauga Metropolitan Housing Authority (GMHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. It was last open for 12 days from July until August 2018; and before that two weeks from November until December 2016, and for two weeks in October 2015. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

There were two ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Download and print the application online.            
  2. Pick up an application at the GMHA office.

Once the paper application has been completed, it must have beenmailed to the GMHA, 385 Center Street, Chardon, Ohio 44024.

This waiting list had the following preferences: Victim of domestic violence, veteran or widow of veteran, working.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application was received, by order of preferences.

Closed: Geauga Metropolitan Housing Authority Mainstream Voucher

The Geauga Metropolitan Housing Authority (GMHA) Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from July 20, 2020 until July 31, 2020. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: According to the GMHA, this waiting list is "for non-elderly (ages 18 to 61), low-income families with at least one verifiably disabled family member."

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to print the paper application that was available online.

Once the application was completed, it must have been either:

  1. Mailed to the GMHA.
  2. Emailed to the GMHA.

This waiting list had the following preferences: Non-elderly disabled, families transitioning out of institutional and other segregated settings, and those currently experiencing homelessness or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

It was not known how applicants were placed on the waiting list.
