Closed: New Hanover County, North Carolina Section 8 Voucher

The Wilmington Housing Authority (WHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is closed.

The WHA last accepted Section 8 HCV applications for this waiting list from March 1, 2022, until March 2, 2022. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

There were two ways to apply during the opening period: 

  1. Print the paper application.
  2. Pick up an application from the WHA Administrative Building.

Once the application was completed, it was postmarked no later than March 5, 2022, and mailed to the Wilmington Housing Authority.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Involuntarily Displaced:  A person or family who has been involuntarily displaced and not living in standard permanent replacement housing within 12 months of the application as a result of a natural disaster that has been declared by local, state, or federal government, a documented state action by a local, state, or federal government entity related to code enforcement, family has been displaced for more than 30 days because their permanent housing has been determined by local, state, or federal government to be uninhabitable.
  • Resident:  An applicant who at the time of application lives or works in the jurisdiction of Wilmington Housing Authority, which is New Hanover County on a permanent basis.

It was not known how applicants will be placed on the waiting list.

Closed: Houston Moore and Vesta Village Public Housing

The Wilmington Housing Authority (WHA) waiting list for 2, 3 and 4-Bedroom Public Housing apartments at Houston Moore and Vesta Village is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from May 4, 2020, until May 5, 2020. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

There were two ways to apply during the opening period: 

  1. Pick up an application from the WHA.
  2. Print out the paper application that was available online.

Once the application was completed, it must have been postmarked no later than May 8, 2020 and mailed to the Wilmington Housing Authority.

Preferences have not yet been confirmed.

It was not known how applicants will be placed on the waiting list.
