Open: Lee and Harnett County, North Carolina Section 8 Voucher

The Sanford Housing Authority (SHA) is accepting Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from May 17, 2024 at 11:00 am ET, until 1,500 applications have been received. This is the first time the waiting list has opened since it closed in April, 2023.

This waiting list has the following preferences:

  • Involuntary Displacement
  • Homeless Veterans
  • Chronically Homeless
  • Single Elderly/ Disabled
  • Elderly or Disabled with Minor Children
  • Homeless Families that include minor children who are identified by a social service agency providing shelter or law enforcement
  • In Place – eligible applicants who reside in units at the time of the PBV property owner’s proposal selection date for Project-based assistance

1,500 selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, weighed by order of preferences.

Closed: 226 Linden Avenue Section 8 Project-Based Voucher

The Sanford Housing Authority (SHA) Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list for apartments at 226 Linden Avenue is closed.

The SHA last accepted applications for this waiting list from February 7, 2022, until February 21, 2022. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

There were two ways to apply during the opening period: 

  1. Paper applications were available on the SHA website.
  2. Call the SHA to request an application by mail.

Once the application was completed, it was either:

  1. Dropped off at the SHA drop box.
  2. Mailed to the SHA.

Preferences have not yet been confirmed.

It was not known how applicants will be placed on the waiting list.

The Sanford Housing Authority (SHA) last accepted Section 8 Project Based Voucher waiting list applications for Gilmore Terrace and Garden Apartments from July 26, 2023, until the earliest confirmed close date of May 15, 2024. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply while the waitlist was open, applicants were required to pick up an application from the following locations:

  • The SHA office
  • Gilmore Terrace Community Center

Once the paper application was completed, it was to be either:

  1. Hand delivered to the SHA Office or Gilmore Terrace Community Center.
  2. Mailed to the SHA Office or Gilmore Terrace Community Center.

Preferences have not been confirmed.
