The waiting list has the following preferences: Employed at least 15 hours per week or receiving unemployment insurance (elderly/disabled exempt), Schenectady City resident, Schenectady County resident.

The Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority (SMHA) Housing Choice Voucher Section 8 waiting list is currently closed. It was last open for four days in June, 2018; and before that in September, 2015. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.
To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the the online application.
The waiting list had the following preferences: Live or work locally, victims of domestic violence, veterans, households with more than one member, working families, families with children.
Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, by order of preferences.
