Open: RAD Senior/ Disabled Section 8 Project-Based Voucher

The Lakewood Housing Authority (LHA) Senior and Disabled RAD Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list is currently open.

The LHA is accepting applications for this waiting list from the earliest confirmed date of June, 2019, until further notice.

There are three ways to apply:

  1. Download and print the application online. Select the "Download RAD Project Based Voucher Application (Formerly Public Housing)" link.
  2. Pick up an application at the LHA office, located at 317 Sampson Ave., P.O. Box 1599, Lakewood, NJ 08701, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. ET, Monday-Friday.

Once the application has been completed, it must be dropped off at the LHA office at the address above, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.

The waiting list has the following preferences: Current residents on the transfer list and Families with court-ordered admissions.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, by order of preferences.

Reasonable Accommodation

Applicants who need help completing the application due to disability can make a reasonable accommodation request to the housing authority via (732) 364-1300.

IMPORTANT: This is not the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. Section 8 Project-Based Voucher tenants are required to live in a specific apartment community or scattered site. After one year of occupancy, a Project-Based Voucher tenant may request to be placed on a waiting list to receive the next available Housing Choice Voucher or similar tenant-based rental assistance.

Closed: Lakewood, New Jersey Mainstream Voucher

The Lakewood Housing Authority (LHA) Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from July 6, 2021, until July 13, 2021. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: According to the LHA, "To qualify for the Mainstream program, the application must contain at least one family member that is disabled and non-elderly (age 18-61)."

There were three ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Complete the online application.
  2. Print the paper application.
  3. Call LHA to request a paper application.

Once the paper application was completed, it was mailed to the main office or hand delivered to the main office.

The maximum income limits for each household size were listed on the application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Victims of Domestic Violence
  • Residents living or working in Lakewood Township
  • Family Unification Program Youths Aging out of Foster Care (FUPY) referrals
  • Family Unification Program Youths (FUPY) voucher holders, in good standing, that are reaching the expiration of their FUPY voucher term and will have lack of adequate housing as a result of their termination from the program.
  • Family Unification Program Families/referrals
  • Elderly or Disabled Single applicants shall have preference over other single individuals
  • Date and time of application / Randomized Lottery Number (if designated by the wait list opening).
  • Veterans

25 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery.

The Lakewood Housing Authority (LHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is closed.

The LHA last accepted applications for this waiting list from October 19, 2022, until November 2, 2022. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to fill out the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Residents living or working in Lakewood Township
  • Veterans 
  • Victims of Domestic Violence
  • Elderly or Disabled Single applicants shall have preference over other single individuals.
  • Leasing in Place – When the voucher utilization rate falls below 98%, a preference will be provided to applicants that can and will lease in place. This preference will remain in effect until the utilization rate reaches 100%, at which time the preference will no longer be considered until such time that the utilization rate falls below 98%

1,000 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.
