The Housing Authority of the City of Perth Amboy (HACPA) is accepting Senior Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list applications for Bethany Manor Apartments from the earliest confirmed open date of December 27, 2023, until further notice.

Please note: "Applicants must be 62 years of age at the time of application."

To apply while the waitlist is open, complete the online application.

This waiting list has the following preferences:

  • Current Bethany Manor Resident
  • Active duty, honorable or general discharge U.S Veteran, or surviving spouse of a U.S Veteran.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by the date and time the application was received, by order of preferences.

IMPORTANT: This is not the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. Section 8 Project-Based Voucher tenants are required to live in a specific apartment community or scattered site. After one year of occupancy, a Project-Based Voucher tenant may request to be placed on a waiting list to receive the next available Housing Choice Voucher or similar tenant-based rental assistance.

Closed: Perth Amboy, New Jersey Limited Section 8 Voucher

The Housing Authority of the City of Perth Amboy Limited Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is closed.

The HACPA last accepted applications for this waiting list on a limited basis for one day on March 16, 2022. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: The HACPA public notice stated, "Applications will be accepted from the following categories of families:

  • Families for which at least one member is a U.S. Veteran (engaged in active duty or has honorable or general discharge), which may also include a surviving spouse of a deceased U.S. Veteran.  
  • Families who were displaced from their permanent residence in Perth Amboy due to a natural disaster within the last 18 months and are not yet in permanent replacement housing.  
  • Families who reside in Perth Amboy, or the head of household or spouse works in Perth Amboy. 
  • Applications that do not meet the criteria above will be disqualified without further notice."

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

The Maximum income limits for each household size were listed on the public notice.

Preferences, if any, have not yet been confirmed for this waiting list.

300 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, in order of preferences. This means that the date and time the application is submitted has no effect on waiting list placement.

Please note: According to the HACPA public notice, "If necessary, the Authority will hold a separate lottery to ensure selection of up to 10 U.S. Veteran families and 10 displaced families."
