The Hoboken Housing Authority Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List is currently closed.


The list was last opened for Hoboken and Weehawken on October 22, 2014, the first time since 2004.


Reports say that hundreds of people seeking rental assistance lined up over night at the Hoboken Elks Club. City Police have estimated up to 1000 people were waiting outside. According to NJ.com some applicants began lining up in the rain the afternoon before.

Closed: Fox Hill Gardens, Studio and 1-Bedroom Section 8 Project-Based Voucher

The Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) last accepted Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list applications for Studio and 1-Bedroom apartments at Fox Hill Gardens from March 27, 2023, until April 5, 2023. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Veterans and surviving spouses
  • Involuntary displaced persons
  • Displaced for health impaired local residents
  • Residents who live and work in the housing authority's jurisdiction
  • Residents who live in the housings authority's jurisdiction
  • Involuntary displaced non local residents
  • Displaced non residents (Not residing within the housing authority's jurisdiction who are victims of domestic violence.) 
  • Non residents who work in the housing authority's jurisdiction
  • Hoboken residents

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.
