Open Soon: Bloomington, Minnesota Section 8 Voucher

The Bloomington Housing and Redevelopment Authority (BHRA) will accept Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from July 15, 2024, until further notice. This is the first time the waiting list has been open since it closed in September, 2018. 

Income Qualification

The maximum income limits for each household size are as follows:

  • 1 Person $43,500 | 5 Persons $67,100
  • 2 Persons $49,700 | 6 Persons $72,050
  • 3 Persons $55,900 | 7 Person $77,050
  • 4 Persons $62,100 | 8 Persons $82,000

Preferences

This waiting list has the following preferences:

  • Terminated from the HCV program due to insufficient program funding.
  • Victims of Domestic Violence.
  • Applicants displaced by Involuntarily Displacement.
  • Live, work, or be hired to work in Bloomington.
  • Elderly/Disabled
  • Currently participating in a HUD HCV Special Program including Foster Youth Independence (FYI) and VASH through the Bloomington HRA

Selection Process

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, by order of preferences.

Application Method

There are two ways to apply while the waitlist is open:

  1. Complete the online application.
  2. Complete the application in person at the BHRA office, located at 1800 West Old Shakopee Road Bloomington, MN 55431. Monday - Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm. 

The BHRA will be hosting Application Workshops for assistance with completing the online application at the Bloomington Civic Plaza, located at 1800 West Old Shakopee Road Bloomington, MN 55431. July 15, 2024 through July 26, 2024. Monday - Friday. 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

IMPORTANT: This is not the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. Section 8 Project-Based Voucher tenants are required to live in a specific apartment community or scattered site. After one year of occupancy, a Project-Based Voucher tenant may request to be placed on a waiting list to receive the next available Housing Choice Voucher or similar tenant-based rental assistance.

Open: Rental Homes for Future Homebuyers Program Project-Based

The Bloomington Housing and Redevelopment Authority (BHRA) Rental Homes for Future Homebuyers Program waiting list is currently open, since at least October 8, 2018, until further notice. It is not known when this waiting list opened, and no closing date has been identified. 

There are two ways to apply:

  1. Download and print the application online.
  2. Call (952) 563-8937 to request an application by mail, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm CT.

Once the paper application has been completed, it must be:

  1. Mailed to the HRA, 1800 West Shakopee Road, Bloomington Minnesota, 55431.
  2. Dropped off at the HRA office at the address above, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

This waiting list has the following preferences: Persons Who Live, Work, or Attend School Locally, Working/Employed, Persons in Job Training or Higher Education, Referred by Local Assistance Program, Persons with a disability who uses a Bloomington service provider.                     

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, by order of preferences.
