Open: Massachusetts Housing Choice Voucher Centralized

This housing authority participates in the Massachusetts Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Centralized Waiting List, which is a partnership between most of the housing authorities in Massachusetts. Applicants submit one application to apply to a centralized waiting list. Selected applicants will be placed on the centralized waiting list, and will be under consideration for every participating housing authority.

The Massachusetts Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Centralized Waiting List is currently open.

The Massachusetts Centralized waiting list will accept applications from January 6, 2003, until further notice.

There are three ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Complete the online application available here
  2. Download and print the application online. Select the link titled "Preliminary Application" in your native language.
  3. Contact a participating housing authority request an application by mail. Participating housing authority contact information can be found here.

Once the paper application has been completed, it can be mailed or hand delivered to any participating housing authority. Participating housing authority address information can be found here.

The waiting list will be sorted differently by each housing authority according to its own preferences.

Participating housing authorities may have any of the following preferences: Activated military personnel to Persian Gulf; Board of Health condemnation; Disabled; Displaced by hate crime or reprisal, Displaced by landlord non-renewal; Displaced by natural disaster;  Displaced by public action; Displaced by domestic violence; Elderly (62+); Near elderly (55+); Extremely low income; Health disability affecting housing need; Homeless; Participant in Metro Program in Wayland school; Rent burdened 50% of income; Rent burdened 40% of income; one-person family; substandard housing; tenants of Project-Based units; clients for Project-Based units; Veteran; Working. Further explanation of each preference can be found here.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application has been received, by order of preferences.

Open: Senior / Disabled Public Housing

The Watertown Housing Authority (WHA) waiting list for Senior/Disabled Public Housing apartments is currently open. Applications are being accepted since at least June, 2015, until further notice.

To apply during the opening period, open and print the application online. Scroll down to the "Federal Housing" section, and select the "Federal Application for Public Housing (pdf)" link.

Closed: E. Joyce Munger Apartments, Near Elderly Section 8 Project-Based Voucher

The Watertown Housing Authority (WHA) Near Elderly Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list for 1 and 2-Bedroom apartments at E. Joyce Munger Apartments is closed.

The WHA last accepted applications for this waiting list from August 22, 2022, until September 16, 2022.There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: According to the WHA, "To be eligible, applicants must a) meet the income guidelines, b) live and/or work in Watertown, MA, and c) be 55+ years of age"

There were two ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Complete the online application.
  2. Call the WHA to request an application by mail.

Once the application was completed, it was postmarked by September 16, 2022 and mailed to the WHA.

The maximum income limits for each household size were as follows:

  • 1 Person $78,300
  • 2 Persons $89,500
  • 3 Persons $100,700
  • 4 Persons $111,850

Preferences have not yet been confirmed.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery.

Closed: St. Joseph’s Hall Senior Section 8 Project-Based Voucher

The Watertown Housing Authority (WHA) last accepted Elderly Section 8 Project Based Voucher waiting list applications for 1 and 2-Bedroom apartments at St. Joseph’s Hall from May 13, 2024, until May 31, 2024. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

This waiting list was for the following property:

  •  St. Joseph’s Hall Apartments

Please note: "Applicants must be 62+ years of age."

The maximum income limits for each household size were as followed:

  • 1 Person $57,100 | 2 Persons $63,500

This waiting list had the following preferences: Applicants who live and/or work in Watertown, MA.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences.

There were five ways to apply while the waitlist was open:

  1. In Person at the WHA Office.
  2. Call WHA to request an application by mail.
  3. Mail a letter to the WHA office to request an application.
  4. Email the WHA to request an application.
  5. Print the paper application.

Once the application was completed, it was to be either:

  1. Delivered in person at the WHA office.
  2. Postmarked by May 31, 2024 and mailed to WHA.
