Open: Massachusetts Housing Choice Voucher Centralized

This housing authority participates in the Massachusetts Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Centralized Waiting List, which is a partnership between most of the housing authorities in Massachusetts. Applicants submit one application to apply to a centralized waiting list. Selected applicants will be placed on the centralized waiting list, and will be under consideration for every participating housing authority.

The Massachusetts Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Centralized Waiting List is currently open.

The Massachusetts Centralized waiting list will accept applications from January 6, 2003, until further notice.

There are three ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Complete the online application available here
  2. Download and print the application online. Select the link titled "Preliminary Application" in your native language.
  3. Contact a participating housing authority request an application by mail. Participating housing authority contact information can be found here.

Once the paper application has been completed, it can be mailed or hand delivered to any participating housing authority. Participating housing authority address information can be found here.

The waiting list will be sorted differently by each housing authority according to its own preferences.

Participating housing authorities may have any of the following preferences: Activated military personnel to Persian Gulf; Board of Health condemnation; Disabled; Displaced by hate crime or reprisal, Displaced by landlord non-renewal; Displaced by natural disaster;  Displaced by public action; Displaced by domestic violence; Elderly (62+); Near elderly (55+); Extremely low income; Health disability affecting housing need; Homeless; Participant in Metro Program in Wayland school; Rent burdened 50% of income; Rent burdened 40% of income; one-person family; substandard housing; tenants of Project-Based units; clients for Project-Based units; Veteran; Working. Further explanation of each preference can be found here.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application has been received, by order of preferences.

The Chelmsford Housing Authority (CHA) is accepting Affordable waiting list applications for 2-Bedroom apartments at William Harvey Estates from the earliest confirmed open date of May 20, 2024, until July 19, 2024 at 4:30 pm ET.

This waiting list is for the following property:

  • William Harvey Estates - located at 57 Carlisle, MA 01824.

Preferences

This waiting list has the following preferences:

  1. A Chelmsford Resident
  2. Employed in the Town of Chelmsford or its school system
  3. Households of students enrolled in the Chelmsford school system.

Selection Process

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.

  2. Municipal employees
  3. Employees of local businesses

Open: Multiple Properties Section 8 Project-Based Voucher

The Chelmsford Housing Authority (CHA) is accepting Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list applications since at least May, 2019, until further notice. Waiting lists for a specific community or bedroom size may be closed.

There are two ways to apply while the waitlist is open:

  1. Download and print the application online. Select the link for a community with an open waiting list.
  2. Pick up an application at the CHA office located at 10 Wilson Street, Chelmsford, Massachusetts 01824, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm ET.

Once the application is completed, it must be dropped off at the CHA office located at the address above during office hours.

This waiting list has the following preferences:

  • Local Preference
    • The applicant is a permanent resident of the Town in which they are applying on the date that
      they submitted a preliminary application, the date of screening, and the date of final certification.
  • Institutionalization
    • An applicant at risk of being placed in a long-term care facility or currently a resident of a
      long-term care facility.
  • Homelessness
    • An applicant that is at risk of being homeless or is currently homeless.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, by order of preferences.

IMPORTANT: This is not the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. Section 8 Project-Based Voucher tenants are required to live in a specific apartment community or scattered site. After one year of occupancy, a Project-Based Voucher tenant may request to be placed on a waiting list to receive the next available Housing Choice Voucher or similar tenant-based rental assistance.

Closed: Merrimac Commons Project-Based

The Chelmsford Housing Authority (CHA) waiting list for 2-Bedroom townhomes at Merrimac Commons is currently closed. Applications were last accepted on August 18, 2020. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to print the paper application that was available online.

Once the application has been completed, it was either:

  1. Mailed to the Chelmsford Housing Authority.
  2. Faxed to the CHA.
  3. Emailed to the CHA.

The maximum income limits for each household size were as follows:

  • 1 person $54,950
  • 2 persons $62,800
  • 3 persons $70,650
  • 4 persons $78,500

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • A local preference apply to who are municipal employees, are working at a business located in Tyngsboro, or people who have children who are attending Tyngsboro schools.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application was received, weighed by order of preferences.

The Chelmsford Housing Authority (CHA) waiting list for apartments at Beaver Brook Crossing is currently closed. Applications were last accepted on August 21, 2020. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to print the online paper application.

Once the application has been completed, it was mailed to the Chelmsford Housing Authority.

The maximum income limits for each household size were as follows:

  • 1 person $37,800 | 4 persons $54,000
  • 2 persons $43,200 | 5 persons $58,350
  • 3 persons $48,600 | 6 persons $62,650

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Residents of the Chelmsford/Greater Lowell Area.

The Chelmsford Housing Authority (CHA) waiting list for Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from July 1, 2020, until July 10, 2020. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: This is not the HUD Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. This is a program by the State of Massachusetts.

There were four ways to apply during the opening period: 

  1. Print the application that was available online.
  2. Send an email to the CHA.
  3. Pick up an application from outside the CHA main office.
  4. Call the CHA.

Preferences have not yet been confirmed.
