Closed: Jackson County, Illinois Mainstream Voucher

The Jackson County Housing Authority (JCHA) Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from December 16, 2019, until January 14, 2020. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: According to the JCHA, this waiting list is, "specifically for non-elderly person[s] with disabilities (age 18-or less than 62 years of age) who are transitioning out of institutional or other segregated settings, at risk of institutionalization, homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless...Pre-applications will need to be accompanied with a referral letter from a partnering agency."

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to obtain a referral letter and application from one of the agencies partnering with the JCHA.

Preferences have not yet been confirmed.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application was received, weighed by order of preferences.

Closed: Jackson County, Illinois Section 8 Voucher

The Jackson County Housing Authority (JCHA) last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from March 4, 2024, until March 28, 2024. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply while the waitlist was open, applicants were required to pick up an application at the JCHA office.

Please note: "Applications MUST be returned with the following for all household members: Copies of Picture ID, Social Security card, birth certificate, proof of income (last 30 days), bank statements and signed application packet. Applications will NOT be accepted if the above items are not included."

Once the application was completed, it was to be either: 

  1. Hand delivered to the JCHA office.
  2. Mailed to JCHA office.

This waiting list had the following preferences: Live, Work, or Attend School in Jackson County, Illinois, Displaced by Natural Disaster, Working/Employed, Working Families, Rent Burdened.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application was received, weighed by order of preferences.

Closed: Jackson County Housing Authority Public Housing

The Jackson County Housing Authority (JCHA) last accepted Public Housing waiting list applications since at least January, 2018, until June 19, 2023.

There were two ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Complete the online application.
  2. Open and print the application documents here. Select every link under the Public Housing section.

Once the paper application was completed, it was to be:

  1. Hand delivered to the JCHA office.
  2. Mailed to the JCHA office.
  3. Faxed to the JCHA office.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • A family whose member(s) either live, work or have been hired to work or who are enrolled for the current school semester in the jurisdiction of Jackson County.
  • Working Families, Where the head, spouse or sole member is employed for 9 months. However, an applicant where the head and spouse or sole member is a person age 62 or older, or is a person with disabilities, must also be given the benefit of this preference.
  • A family in which each member or sole member is a person displaced by governmental action or a family displaced by a disaster recognized by the Federal government, which extensively damaged or destroyed their dwelling unit.
  • A family in which each member or sole member is a person displaced by housing owner sale of rental home results in the tenant having to vacate the residence.

The Jackson County Housing Authority (JCHA) last accepted Public Housing waiting list applications from an unconfirmed open date, until February 29, 2024. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply while the waitlist was open, applicants were required to print the paper application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • A family whose member(s) either live, work or have been hired to work or who are enrolled for the current school semester in the jurisdiction of Jackson County.
