Open: Mims, 2 and 3-Bedroom Public Housing

The Housing Authority of Brevard County (HABC) is accepting Public Housing waiting list applications for 2-Bedroom Apartments in Mims from the earliest confirmed open date of April 18, 2024, until further notice. 

This waiting list has the following preferences:

  • Working (30 hours or more per week for the last 3 months or more)
  • Displacement due to domestic violence verification (court documents)
  • Displacement due to natural disaster (i.e. flood, hurricane, earthquake, etc.) verification
  • Veterans (DD214) Participants of educational and training program verification.
  • Participants of transitional housing verification.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, by order of preferences.

To apply while the waitlist is open, print the paper application.

Once the paper application has been completed, it was to be either:

  1. Turned into the HABC office, located at 1401 Guava Avenue, Melbourne, Florida 32935. Tuesdays only from 8:00 am until 11:00 am.
  2. Mailed to the HABC office, address mentioned above.

Closed: Brevard County, Florida Section 8 Voucher

The Housing Authority of Brevard County (HABC) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from July 1, 2020, until July 5, 2020. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: When this waiting list was originally scheduled to open in April, 2020, it was planned to reopen again in October, 2020 and January, 2021. However, the HABC has cancelled the October and January openings "due to constraints from COVID-19."

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Displacement Due to a Presidentially Declared Natural Disaster: (15 points) This preference is extended to families that have been displaced due to a presidentially declared natural disaster. The disaster must have either occurred in the past year or the family must still be living in temporary housing or receiving housing assistance subsidies that will expire. The family must also provide proof that they have applied for assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
  • Disabled Preference: (2 points) This preference is extended to persons or families where the head of household, spouse, co-head or sole member is disabled. Proof of preference will be verified at time of selection. (HUD regulations prohibit admission preferences for specific types of disabilities.)
  • Elderly Preference: (2 points) This preference is extended to persons or families where the head of household, spouse, co-head or sole member is 62 years of age or older.
  • Veteran Preference: (1 point) A preference will be given for applicants that are Veterans, honorably discharged from the US Armed Forces.
  • FYI Voucher Holder Preference: (10 points) A preference will be given for applicants that currently hold Foster Youth to Independence Vouchers.
  • Current Public Housing Residents who are disabled: (10 points) Any current Resident of Public Housing that is disabled and need a fully designed Handicap Unit.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, weighed by order of preferences.
