Open: Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles Public Housing

The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) Public Housing waiting list is currently open.

Applications are being accepted since at least March, 2018, until further notice.

To apply during the opening period, complete the online application.

Income limit information can be found here.

This waiting list has the following preferences: Working at least 20 hours per week at the State's minimum wage, attending an accredited college, trade school or vocational school full-time, working or attending school for at least 20 hours per week, otherwise equally income self-sufficient, disabled, elderly.

Please note: Priority among each preference shall be given to families of veterans or service members of the US Armed Forces (regardless of application date).

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, weighed by order of preferences.

Closed: Los Angeles, California Section 8 Voucher

The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is closed.

The HACLA last accepted applications for this waiting list from October 17, 2022, until October 30, 2022. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application. The online application was available in English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Armenian, and Tagalog.

The maximum income limit for each household size were as follows:

  • 1 Person $41,700 | 6 Persons $69,100
  • 2 Persons $47,650 | 7 Persons $73,850
  • 3 Persons $53,600 | 8 Persons $78,650
  • 4 Persons $59,550 | 9 Persons $83,400
  • 5 Persons $64,350 | 10 Persons $88,150

This waiting list has the following preferences:

  • Preference for waiting list selection will be given to applicants who live, work, or have been hired to work within the City of Los Angeles, as well as to applicants who are veterans or have a household member who is a veteran of the US military, released from such military service under conditions other than dishonorable. If you are unsure if your neighborhood is within Los Angeles, you may check HACLA’s neighborhood listing.

30,000 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.
