Closed: Chestnut Square Section 8 Project-Based Voucher

The Housing Authority of the City of Livermore (HACL) Homeless Family Section 8 Project Based Voucher waiting list for apartments at Chestnut Square is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from July 20, 2020 until July 23, 2020. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Chestnut Square Family Apartments, located at 1665 Chestnut Street, is a 42-unit (1, 2, & 3-bedrooms), affordable rental project expected to be completed in October 2020.

Please note: According to the HACL, "To be eligible for this project based voucher the homeless verification/referral form must be included with the preapplication to be accepted. The Homeless criteria applies to applicants who...Lacks fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, meaning:

  • Has a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not meant for human habitation;
  • Is living in a publicly or privately operated shelter designated to provide temporary living arrangements (including congregate shelters, transitional housing, and hotels/motels paid for by charitable organizations or by federal, state and local government programs); or
  • Is exiting an institution where (s)he has resided for 90 days or less and who resided in an emergency shelter or place not meant for human habitation immediately before entering that institution."

The Homeless Verification/Referral Agencies were : Abode Services, Tri-Valley Haven, and City Serve.

There were two ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Print the paper application that was available online.
  2. Pick up an application from the HACL.

Once the application was completed, it was either:

  1. Postmarked by July 23, 2020 and mailed to Livermore Housing Authority.
  2. Dropped off in person at the HACL.
  3. Emailed to the HACL

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Homeless

200 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences.
