Open: Montgomery Housing Authority Public Housing

The Montgomery Housing Authority (MHA) waiting list for Public Housing apartments is currently open. Applications are being accepted from March 22, 2021 until further notice.

Please note: The MHA public notice states that the application is available on "www.mhatoday.org" but as of 11:00 am, the online application does not list a Public Housing waiting list.

To apply during the opening period, complete the online application available here.

This waiting list may have any of the following preferences:

  • Disabled
  • Enrolled in an accredited education, employment or job training program
  • Over 62 years of age
  • Working 30 hours per week or more for the past 12 months
  • Working 30 hours per week or more
  • Smiley Court involuntarily displacement

It is not known how applicants will be placed on the waiting list.

Closed: Autauga, Elmore and Montgomery County, Alabama Section 8 Voucher

The Montgomery Housing Authority (MHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from March 16, 2021 until March 23, 2021. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening time, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  1. The MHA will offer a preference to any family that has been terminated from its MCV program due to insufficient program funding.
  2. The MHA will offer a preference to families that include victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking who have either been referred by a partnering service agency or consortia or is seeking an emergency transfer under VAWA from the MHA’s public housing program or other covered housing program operated by the MHA.

1,500 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, after sorting preferences.
