The Jefferson County Housing Authority (JCHA) last accepted Public Housing waiting list applications for apartments at Brookside Village, Fultondale Village, Hickory Grove and Red Hollow apartments from July 31, 2023, until August 14, 2023. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

There were two ways to apply while the waiting list was open:

  1. Print the paper application.
  2. Pick up the application from the Jefferson County Housing Authority (Fultondale Office).

Once the application was completed, applicants were required to call JCHA to make an appointment to return the application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Displaced person(s)
    • Individuals or families displaced by government action or whose dwelling has been extensively damaged or destroyed as a result of a disaster declared or otherwise formally recognized pursuant to Federal Disaster Relief Laws.
  • Applicants with an adult family member currently working 30 hours a week.
    • This preference is also extended equally to all elderly families and all families whose head or spouse is receiving income based on their inability to work.

  • Northeast Jefferson Villa in Bradford - 1, 2 and 3-bedroom units.
  • Chelsea Gardens -  0, 1, 2 and 3-bedroom units.
  • Warrior Courts - 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom units.

  2. Print the paper application.

Once the paper application was completed, applicants were required to call the JCHA to schedule an appointment to drop off the application at the JCHA (Warrior Office).

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Catastrophic Involuntary Displacement 
  • Applicants with an Adult member enrolled in an employment training program or currently working 30 hours per week or more. 
  • A person defined as elderly or disabled under the definition verified by the Social Security Administration.
  • Special Circumstance Preferences: These preferences apply only to specific units: 
    • Near-elderly families over other families for units designated for elderly/disabled (this preference only applies to designated properties) 
    • For one bedroom/efficiency units; elderly, disabled families and displaced persons over single persons.

100 selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, weighed by order of preferences.
