Please note: According to the AHA public notice, "Mainstream Vouchers are for households with a non-elderly disabled person. This is defined as any family that includes a person with a disability who is at least 18 years old and not yet 62 years old."

Closed: Chambers and Lee County, Alabama Section 8 Voucher

The Auburn Housing Authority Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is closed.

The AHA last accepted applications for this waiting list from May 24, 2022, until an unconfirmed close date in 2022. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Any family that has been terminated from its HCV program due to insufficient program funding. (15 points)
  • Residency preference to families who live, work or have been hired to work within the PHA’s jurisdiction. (10 points)
  • Working family preference. (4 points)
    • A working family is a family in which the head, spouse, cohead, or sole member is employed at least 30 hours per week. As required by HUD, families where the
      head and spouse, or sole member is a person age 62 or older, or is a person with disabilities, will also be given the benefit of the working preference [24 CFR
      982.207(b)(2)].
  • Families who qualify for protections under VAWA. The PHA will extend this preference to five (5) families per fiscal year. (30 points)
    • The family must be referred to the PHA by a credible agency that assists domestic violence victims.
    • The applicant must certify that the abuser will not reside with the applicant unless the PHA gives prior written approval.
    • The PHA will first assist families that have been terminated from the HCV program due to insufficient funding and then assist families that qualify for the VAWA preference.
    • The PHA will verify this status as reflected under VAWA verification requirements in Chapter 16.
  • Families who are homeless. (30 points)
    • The family must be referred to the PHA by a credible agency that assist homeless person (s).
